The Heavy Duty Kukri is an economy version of the K-TACT Kukri Knife with the same 0.24" thick 1075 high carbon steel blade. The knife is named after survival expert Alan Kay, season 1 winner of Alone on the History Network. Every edge is hand finished and honed to razor sharpness. The walnut wood handles enhance both the look and function of this knife while delivering durable, reliable performance. The knife ships in a handcrafted welted leather sheath with large belt loop and button retention system.

Too Convex But Fixable. My New "Go To" Camp Blade

Nice heavy piece of steel. Mine was not very sharp out of the box but that was easily remedied. My only issue was that the grind was very convex. I suspect this differs from knife to knife. Reading other reviews it seems some are much better choppers out of the box than others. I did quite a bit of filing on mine to get a flatter grind and now it chops like it should. With the factory grind, it would just bounce off of the wood. After the regrind I have gone through a thicket of 2 inch locust and I feel the kukri is at least as good a chopper as a similarly weighted hatchet. No edge folding or heat treatment issues. Great for popping off branches in the 1 inch or less range..The blade is very thick so it will never replace a finesse knife but it will do wood-prep type chores nicely. Nice spine throws sparks well off of a ferro rod. It seems a lot of people are looking for a knife that can do the work of a hatchet. If you think of this kukri as a hatchet that can do knife work, you won't be disappointed. Stick a Mora in your pocket and you'll have it all covered.

The sheath is nice but I don't like the way it wants to pivot to the horizontal all the time. I will probably sew it into an upright carry position. Overall I am pleased with the purchase. Just be prepared to do a little blade work to make it function as it should.

Versatile, Durable, High Quality

First of all, I just want to say I love this knife for its durability and versatility, but also for its quality. I spent a lot of time shopping for kukri. I really wanted a genuine Nepalese Gurkha Kukri, but unless you get up near the $100+ range, the quality is variable, even within the same brand and product line. I went with the Condor because I felt more confident that I would get a quality product instead of just the luck of the draw, and I wasn't disappointed. I also have something to say to the multitudes of other reviewers of this knife (and other kukri's) who complained that the knife is dull when they received it. While my knife was not dull, it wasn't razor sharp; but I believe there is a good reason for that. As I mentioned earlier it is versatile, capable of making thin slices or intricate carving, as well as chopping down a stout tree. However, it is a style of knife that one needs to practice with in order to use skillfully and safely. It is heavier than most knives with a thick blade that when swung with force is capable of severing thick branches, as well as fingers, hands, feet, bones or major arteries. I believe the manufacturer is helping to protect people from injuring themselves. For those of us who still want a razor sharp blade, a few minutes of sharpening is all it will take to get it there. But if you're not a person who uses knives or machetes often, you might want to do your practicing with this knife before your shaving, if you catch my drift.
