Lining

kept me quite warm at 13 degrees.

I picked this bag up and took it on a backpacking trip which turned cold. The first night I went to bed and my thermometer said 27 degrees at 10 pm. I was very toasty in the bag. The second night it was 18 degrees and I awoke to sleet hitting my tarp at 5 am. I was also quite warm and comfortable. The last night was 13 degrees at 10 pm (I'm not sure how low it went beyond that). I was warm and comfortable in the bag until about 5 am. This night I used the bag in a tent instead of under a tarp and the moisture in trapped inside from two people and a big dog dripped back on the end of my bag. I woke up and was warm, but my feet were cold. I turned on a light and looked at the bag to discover ice had formed on the bag where my feet had rubbed against the walls of the tent. I put my sweater over the icy spot and went back to sleep. My feet were warm the next morning. All three nights I slept in a t-shirt and boxers. Normally, in cold weather I sleep in my clothes which add an extra layer of insulation, but after reading the other reviews I decided to throw caution to the wind and test the bag out.

I noticed that the bag will not keep you warm unless you cinch the mummy drawstring tight and seal the air out of the bag. I can only guess that other reviewers either didn't cinch the string or fell asleep against the outside wall of a tent. Also, this bag is a bit big for my tastes as I like to hike with a tiny alpine pack. I used my bigger bag (it's about what a 'normal' backpacker would use) on this trip and it fit easily inside the pack. Overall, I think it's a great bag. I wish it didn't weight 3 pounds, but for the price I doubt one could find a cheaper bag that has this temp rating.
