TOPS Mini Scandi Rockies Knife MSK-TBF (USA)

I went back and forth trying to decide on a neck knife. Reading many reviews and watching a lot of video reviews. I wanted something small but not something minuscule and something of good quality. I finally decided on the Tops Mini Scandi and I think I made a good choice.

I have average size male hands and this is a solid 3 finger knife with only around an 1/8" protruding for my pinkie. However it still feels like it locks up good in my hand. Fit and finish are top shelf. I'm still not too sold on the black coating Tops applies to the knife. But I can see it's pros and cons. The blade grind was symmetrical and there is a small secondary bevel. Thick blade stock is used and I can see this knife lasting longer than I will.

The neck sheath is also high quality and as one other reviewer mentioned, removing the knife from the sheath takes some serious effort. But again I can see the pros and cons with this also. Better to be too tight and not accidentally falling out than being TOO easy to remove. The sheath comes with a good length of stainless ball chain to go around your neck. I have replaced this with paracord just for a little more comfort. It also comes with a Tops survival whistle attached to the chain. That was a nice surprise.

All in all I am very happy with my purchase. A small, well made neck knife to use while camping.

Very nice knife and sheath. Very good fit and finish. Excellent edge retention and ease of sharpening, as expected of good carbon steel. Comfortable and secure three fingers grip. Four stars instead of five because of two things I already knew when purchasing. One is that it is differentialy heat treated. Spine is soft, edge is hard. So no using a ferro rod on the spine. The second is it is not any sort of "modified" scandi grind. It's a saber grind. Period. Maybe slightly convexed. As I said, I knew this. Four stars because Tops does not include this in the general advertising.
