Gransfors Splitting Maul #450 with Collar Guard (Sweden)

I've been splitting firewood for thirty years with cheap hardware store bought mauls. The Gransfors maul not only splits better than anything I've ever used it makes the job thoroughly enjoyable. It's a pleasure to look at as well.

Great splitting axe. It (almost) does the work for you.

This is my 3ird Gransfors axe product I’ve purchased over the last decade. Forest Axe, large splitting axe and now maul with a splitting wedge. The handling quality is nice on this maul and I think it was a good purchase. I do like the edge shape/ geometry and head weight of this tool. The Handle length is a good compromise for easy use. It could be longer…with a little larger end swell but completely usable. I have wrapped the last 10” aprox with Jute and epoxy as my 60 yr old hands dont grip as well as they used to. The only criticism I have is the temper/ steel on the striking non sharp side. It is quick to deform if used as a sledge for wedge use. I was using the gransfors wedge to quarter 30” plus red oak rounds. The splitting wedge worked great and the initial stick, far superior to typical American splitting wedge shapes. In a pinch use it this way as advertised but I have discontinued this sledge hammer practice accordingly. Yes, I would purchase again. A good axe lasts a lifetime at least. I simply enjoy splitting with a well thought out and patterned tool.

It cuts really nice but not sure it's worth the money. I wish the handle was longer.

Great Maul and Wedges! The maul splits logs like going through butter---less so of course when you hit a knot, but still easier than my old maul. I have several Gransfors axes and they are worth the price.
