White River M1 Backpacker Pro S35VN Fixed Blade (USA)

The knife is everything it is supposed to be, well made and a good choice for everyday carry. Unfortunately, the sheath attachment is questionably constructed. I wanted to remove the attachment so that I could carry the sheathed knife in a pants pocket without the added encumbrance. It took me almost an hour to remove the two screws that connected the attachment to the sheath. I eventually had to destroy the attachment in order to get one of those screws loose. It almost seems that the designers never considered that someone might actually want to remove that attachment. On the positive side, North River Outdoors provided an outstanding shopping and ordering experience, and followed up with a fast delivery - nicely done.

100% approved for left handed use. I’m tired of losing knives with pocket clips so I went down the rabbit hole looking for a small fixed blade knife that could be carried multiple ways. I finally decided on the white river knife and tool M1 backpacker pro and I will say it fills the role perfectly. I carried it scout style appendix, neck carry but have to say my personal favorite is running a small loop of para cord through the bottom two eyelets and looping it through a belt loop and then it will dangle in my front or back pocket. The kydex sheath is the best I’ve ever gotten from the factory and it even better than some custom one I’ve had made for knives. The knife is one of my favorite edc steels S35VN not to bad to sharpen and stays sharp for a long time depending on your usage just be sure to strop it before you overly dull it so you don’t have to work to hard. The handle is a nice fit in my m/l hands. I I really love the ergonomics of the knife. The finish of the blade is great and it came shaving sharp. Over all I’m so impressed with it that it has me looking at their other knives really have my eye on the FC5 and the Ursus 45 to use as my dedicated bush knife.

White River M1 Backpacker Pro Fixed Blade (S35VN)

I love the blade steel, but the geometry of the blade is a little awkward. The finger recess between the blade and the handle is so deep that it makes the thin part of the blade a structural weak point. This steel is hard and somewhat brittle so this can result in a catastrophic failure under hard use. The handle is quite "grippy" so that makes it a pleasure to weild. The size is good for concealment if you so desire. I wish the kydex sheath were designed differently to allow more handle cover so you can attach a pocket clip to it and conceal it in your pocket, but the aggresive grip of the handle material makes it catch on your pocket lining every time. This makes for an unreliable deployment during an emergency situation. Blade came shaving sharp, fits the sheath well, blade length is perfect, very deep blade to allow for many years of sharpening without becoming a pencil. Overall, rates a 4/5
