LOOKING FOR A GREAT KNIFE? THE LEEK IS A BEST BUY

OGL_Web_BestBuy2016_100w.pngThe Kershaw Leek just may be the ideal EDC. With its 3-inch blade, the Leek is a good-sized knife, but not too big. The slim design makes it easy to carry and its razor-sharp blade of high-performance Sandvik 14C28N means it can take care of a full range of cutting tasks.

The blade is a modified drop-point, so it’s a good slicing knife, while the slim tip gives it piercing capability and the ability to do detailed work. Like other “Onion” knives, the Leek features the SpeedSafe ambidextrous assisted opening system.

Whether you’re left-handed or right-handed, just pull back on the flipper and the Leek’s blade is ready to go to work. In addition to its 14C28N blade, this Leek features a handle of pure stainless steel that gives it a clean, sleek look. For confident blade use, a super-secure frame lock keeps the blade locked during use and a Tip-Lock slider locks the blade closed when folded. The pocketclip can be configured for tip-up or tip-down carry and the handle is drilled to accept a lanyard.

The independent review site, Outdoor Gear Lab, recently awarded the Kershaw Leek its Best Buy of 2016.

Nice, but a bit too thin on the handle.

I am not a hunter or fisherman and I only bought this knife to carry in the car for when I need it and for when I go hiking. That said, it's a nice knife, sharp, and the blade comes out with just a pull of your finger on the top. The only thing I'd criticize it for is that the handle is so thin. Each side of the handle is only the width of the blade, which makes it difficult to grasp, especially when trying to open or close it. I've had a couple other knives with thicker, more substantial handles and they seemed better, at least for me.

Great knife with some flaws.

This has been my everyday carry now since purchase, going on a year. It is my favorite knife for the reasons listed in my earlier review below.

The safety lock on mine eventually disappeared. I have yet to have it pop open in my pocket. :)

this is a great pocket knife. Kershaw knives come ridiculously sharp, So beware!
For an all metal knife, the rounded edges make it very comfortable in the pocket. It replaced a smaller knife, with 1" less blade, and yet the curves make it less intrusive.

4 stars as I have two issues with the design.
- It can't decide if it wants to be opened easier than any other knife you own, or harder. If the "lock" is left off, it opens almost like a switchblade. This is fine, and very handy in many one handed operations, but I guess Kershaw was scared that it might flip open in your pocket and stab you to death. So they added a tiny little safety switch that prevents it opening at all.

this leaves you with a choice when you carry it, leave the safety on, and totally defeat the entire point of the easy one handed opening, or don't engage the safety, and live with the fear that you will one day sever your femoral artery while trying to use a public bathroom and bleed out in the jon..

It really just should have been less springy on the opening the one handed operation would still function without it flying open like a switchblade.

The other problem is on occasion it likes to lock open in a way that is hard to close again. This might be unit specific flaw, or a design flaw, I don't know.
