Attractive style, decent blade steel

As you can see from the pics, this is a small lock-back pocket knife with wood scales and what is advertised as "brass" bolsters, or at least accents around where true bolsters would be. The wood scales were all well sanded and sealed, but the brass-colored metal is just that--brass colored; if I had to guess it's probably Al. Not a big problem for me, as the fit/finish were quite good, and the liner and lock are steel, and plenty sturdy. The lock up is perfect and the blade looks to be spot-on centered.

Also visible in the pics is the file work on the brass colored metal, which runs along side the steel liner--very nice.

The blade steel is AN-58, which is a European steel I'm familiar with by name only, but I'm sure its some version of 440, which is what one would expect for this type of knife at this price. The blade takes a very keen edge with relative ease but doesn't retain it esp well--just like 440--but this is definitely not meant to be a heavy duty knife, it's meant to be easy to carry and attractive to look at, and by those standards is a success.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with the quality of this knife. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this knife gives every indication of being solidly and carefully built, and I'd purchase another Nieto w/o hesitation.
