Maintenance
Helle knives are designed to retain their sharpness as a lifelong outdoors companion. But it is still important to take care of your knife and its sheath.

  • The Handle. Dry the handle with a soft cloth if wet and wax occasionally.
  • The Sheath. The leather needs to be impregnated occasionally with colourless impregnation agent (grease or wax) to keep supple. Dry the sheath carefully in room temperature if it becomes wet
  • The Blade. Wipe the blade with a soft cloth if wet and treat with grease occasionally.

Sharpening
Use a diamond tool or a wet stone for sharpening. Place the knife bevel flat to the sharpening tool and work the entire blade. Work one side until you can feel a slight burr on the opposite side. Switch side and repeat the procedure until you feel the burr on the first side. You have now established an edge.

Remove the burr by stroking the blade gently over the sharpening surface on both sides, as if cutting very thin slices. Keep the bevel flat towards the sharpener and move from side to side until the burr is gone.

t is the best knife that I own at the moment

This is knife is actually too sharp. I didn't think that would ever be a real thing, but I'm serious. It's too sharp. That said, it is the best knife that I own at the moment and I will definitely be buying from Helle again in the future. Right out of the box, I was able to EASILY shave my arm hair off, and I even shaved a friend of mine's face with this. The blade is slightly over 5 inches long and looks stunningly beautiful. The core of the blade is high carbon steel and holds its edge quite well so far. The outside of the blade is stainless steel so that it will resist corrosion, so you basically get the best of both worlds by using the two different types of steel. The backside of the blade is perfectly flat so that you can strike a fire starting rod if you so wish and it has a slight drop across the entire blade all the way to the tip. The handle is made from curly birch and has a thing strip of caribou antler sandwiched between the wood. The result is a very pretty and rustic looking handle that fits your hand very well and makes you feel like a man. The sheath is pure leather and a very simple design. It fits on your belt nicely and hangs down below your belt. The only thing that I don't like about this knife is that it is so sharp that it will actually begin to slice through the leather sheath if you are not careful. Be very cautious on how you remove this from the sheath and who you let handle this knife. This is not a toy at all and it will cut you if you even look at it the wrong way
