Shrike EDC Knife by CUR Custom Blades
Greg Campbell is owner and operator of Cur Custom Blades. Greg began knifemaking 10 years ago in the Richmond, Virginia area and hasn’t looked back. He makes both custom and production knives of all kinds, everyday carry, bushcraft, bowie, choppers, drop point hunters and various Japanese style chef knives. You will find him working in the shop downtown at the Shockoe Valley Manufacturing Building where he is part of the Hardway Workshop. He has regularly taught knifemaking since 2018 and enjoys sharing his passion and experience in knifemaking in the schools from time to time as well. When he isn’t in the shop, you will find him in the lab at Virginia Commonwealth University where he is a lab manager and scientist or at home surrounded by his wife, three girls and all their pets! Greg shapes his knives with two distinct methods: forging and stock removal. The process entails manipulating heated steel using hammers, tongs, and occasionally power equipment such as power hammers and presses. Forging and stock removal represent two different pathways to achieve a knife's form, yet the quintessence of knife-making lies in the crucial stage of heat treatment. Often referred to as the "soul" of the knife, heat treatment involves a series of intricate processes that transform unhardened steel into a finely tuned cutting instrument.
