First off, North River got this order to me incredibly fast and so well packaged I had to work to get into it. My first purchase from this seller and very happy I tried them.

As for the knife, I was concerned that the grip might be a bit too large for me, but I liked so many other things about the knife design and what folks were saying about it (and 3V is my favorite knife steel), that I decided to check it out. I also tend to prefer kydex sheaths, which was an option for this knife. Turns out that the grip, while good sized, still fits into my hand well due to the classic coke bottle shape. The knife stayed comfortable throughout my initial testing (various cuts, feathersticking, batoning, etc.). After this I examined the edge with a hand lens and there were no rolls or edge problems on the inner portions of the blade at all (where most of the cutting took place), which has been my experience with 3V. The blade could still shave arm hair easily. I did notice 3 very small apparent rolls of the edge farther out near the curve which I did not expect. I hadn't used this portion of the blade that much. It could be that I cut hard into some quartz sand in my testing without knowing it. I was testing on both split pine logs and some hard beech branches which I had collected off the ground in my yard. I stropped out the rolls in no time, and look forward to further testing. I have given the knife 5 stars as an initial indication that if the steel continues to hold up as it should, this is going to end up one of my favorite knives. I would lower it to 4 otherwise, but since most of the primary cutting edge was flawless and stayed extremely sharp after much testing, I'm guessing the small edge rolls were caused by me unknowingly trying to cut through something that normally cannot be cut.
